DACH_FEST WEEKEND 2024
19 April – 21 April 2024
Cinemafia Film Society are pleased to present DACH_FEST_WEEKEND 2024. The fifth festival of German-speaking countries - which is a noteworthy event where three films will be shown.
DACH_FEST has two meanings. Firstly, D+A+CH which is an abbreviation for the three main German-speaking countries - Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The name derives from the initials of these states: D (Germany, Deutschland), A (Austria), and CH (Switzerland, from the Latin Confoederatio Helvetica). Secondly,‘Dach’ in German means “roof”, as a result of which we are excited to gather the German-language cinema under the hospitable and multicultural roof of St. Petersburg. The organizer of the film festival, Cinemafia Film Society, will once again provide St. Petersburg film fans with the opportunity to watch new films from these three countries in their original language, German, and hear it in all its regional diversity.
“This year’s program has a thematic focus, formulated as “Metaphysics of Cinema: Obvious - Incredible,” coinciding with the great historical anniversary celebrated this year both in Russia and Germany - the 300th anniversary of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724- 1804), who lived in Königsberg (modern Kaliningrad),” says Andrei Smirnov, Cinemafia Film Society program director and creative producer of the festival. — “The 300th anniversary itself happens on April 22, 2024 - the birthday of the great thinker.DACH_FEST WEEKEND will take place the day before with the latest German documentary film with elements of historical reconstruction “Kant – Das Experiment der Freiheit." The theme of obvious feelings and incredible emotions, multiplied by love, passion, understanding, empathy and more. These themes permeate through into the other two other participants in the film screening - the historical drama from Switzerland “Jakobs Ross”, as well as a semi-fairytale love story from Austria - the romantic melodrama “Sterne unter der Stadt ”.
