This creates the brilliance, the dazzle! A ballerina performs a cascade of exquisitely precise pirouettes, glittering like the facets of a diamond… Thirty-two pirouettes… A perfect image… A diamond… Indeed — a diamond! The story is set in NEP-era Leningrad. A ballerina steals a brooch, a splendid gift. After the thief leaves the jewelry store, a black balloon begins to follow her.
