Lives and works in the Republic of Yakutia (Sakha) and in St. Petersburg. Born in 1975 in the village of Suntar (Yakutia). Graduated from the acting department of the Republican College of Culture and Art. From 1996 to 1999 - actor of the Sakha Academic Theater named after P.A. Oyunsky. In 2004, he graduated from the Russian Academy of Theater Arts GITIS (Mark Zakharov's workshop) in the specialty "Director". He staged over 120 plays in Russia (Yakutia, Tatarstan, Tuva, Buryatia, Bashkortostan, Khakassia, Altai, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg), France, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Croatia.
Sergey Potapov is considered the founder of Yakut independent cinema as the author of the film "My Love".
